Hosted by the Office of Academic Innovation, the Faculty & Staff Summer Conference is an opportunity to learn and engage with industry professionals and academics with the theme, “Pathways to the Future: Exploring the Intersection of Learning, Work, and Community.”
The conference is open to faculty and staff from Cal Poly Pomona and colleges and universities across Southern California. Held May 31 to June 2, the conference will consist of three tracks: Digital Badging, FYE Conversations, and Mentorship & Community Wealth and will feature a wide range of workshops, sessions and activities.
“The Summer Conference is a great opportunity for staff and faculty to learn practical skills they can use, network with colleagues, and share ideas. The conference will feature a variety of workshops and presentations on best practices in mentoring, how to leverage digital credentials to motivate students, and ensuring students have a successful first-year experience,” said Winny Dong, director of the Office of Undergraduate Research at Cal Poly Pomona.
This year’s keynote speaker is Cal Poly Pomona’s Associate Vice President of Academic Innovation, Olukemi Sawyerr.
“One of the most significant advantages is the chance to connect with individuals who share similar interests. With in-person events gradually resuming, this conference offers an excellent platform for attendees to exchange ideas and gain insights into emerging trends in mentoring, digital badging and credentialing, and teaching first-year students. I believe this will be a valuable opportunity for all participants” Sawyerr said.
The summer conference also offers attendees opportunities to connect and network with other professionals. Attendees can participate in the networking social on day 2 of the conference.
The Office of Academic Innovation and the NSF INVESTS grant will cover the registration costs for all Cal Poly Pomona faculty & staff with use of promo code “CPP2023”. For non-CPP faculty and staff, early registration is $175 and ends on May 14. After that, the registration cost is $225. All tickets include continental breakfast and lunch for all three days.
