Section of University Drive to Close on Weekdays to Help Expedite Road Rehabilitation

Posted on August 17, 2022

map showing closures
A section of the eastbound and westbound lanes on University Drive will be closed weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

University Drive between Magnolia Lane on the east to the entrance of Parking Lot J on the west will be closed starting on Monday, Aug. 22 to help speed up the road rehabilitation project.

The westbound and eastbound lanes will be closed weekdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The eastbound lane will re-open on weekdays after 3:30 p.m. Access to Parking Lot A using eastbound University Drive will be available weekdays until 7:30 a.m.

The eastbound lane will be closed to faculty, staff and students. However, a traffic control officer will allow Bronco Express shuttle buses, Foundation and state vehicles, and drivers displaying Americans with Disability Act (ADA) tags to enter the eastbound lane. The westbound lane will be closed to all vehicles.

Crossing guards will be stationed at three points along University Drive to monitor construction traffic and to help ensure the safety of pedestrians.

The lane closures will help improve safety to pedestrians and drivers and allow for an expedited construction schedule. The $5 million University Drive Rehabilitation Project includes a widening of the street, a new layer of asphalt, creation of a dedicated shuttle bus lane, construction of new crosswalks and improved ADA accessibility.

Drivers who use Parking Lot A behind Building One are urged to use Lot J, Lots F1-F5 and Parking Structure 1. ADA parking spots are available for drivers along Mansion Lane and behind Building One.

Commuters can access the F series parking lots and Parking Structure 1 from Magnolia Lane. Electric vehicle charging stations in Lot H can be accessed by driving through the F lots. Parking Lot J can be accessed by using University Drive.

Faculty, staff and students should expect delays and proceed with caution when approaching the construction zones. Follow detours signs and the directions of traffic officers.

The University Drive Rehabilitation Project is expected to be completed by the end of October. Facilities Planning & Management is overseeing all aspects of the project.
