Graduates celebrating during Commencement

Cal Poly Pomona’s College of Business Administration was ranked No. 5 in California and No. 30 in the nation, according to Money Magazine’s 2022 ranking of “Best Colleges for Business Majors.” The list was based on value and average salaries for recent graduates.

The university bested both Cornell University and Carnegie Mellon University and was one of the seven CSU’s that made the publication’s Top 50 list.

The College of Business Administration, known for innovation and experiential learning, is accredited by AACSB-International. The undergraduate program offers concentrations in accounting; computer information systems; e-business; finance, real estate, and law; international business and marketing; management and human resources; and technology operations management.

Graduate programs include the MBA, Master of Science in Information Security, Master of Science in Accounting, Master of Science in Business Analytic and Master of Science in Digital Supply Chain Management.

Signature experiences of the college include the Bloomberg Financial Market Lab; opportunities for real-world application of cybersecurity skills; the Bronco Startup Challenge, which gives aspiring entrepreneurs the opportunity to pitch ideas to judges for prizes; a state-of-the-art Supply Chain Operations Lab; Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program training; Hackpoly, a 24-hour marathon on invention; and the Dean’s Leadership Forum.

The recent recognition from Money Magazine highlights the dividends of Cal Poly Pomona’s polytechnic experience inside and beyond the classroom. Among them:

  • In February, the university’s student cybersecurity team won the international Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition, which challenges the world’s brightest cybersecurity students to put their hacking skills to the test.
  • The Bronco Asset Management team’s first place finish in the 2021 Student Managed Investment Fund Competition won them access to manage a $75,000 portfolio for the Orange County chapter of the Chartered Financial Analyst Society. Combined with the Cal Poly Pomona Student-Managed Investment Fund, the portfolios total approximately $320,000.
  • The IRS-backed Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free tax preparation services, pairing trained accounting students and recent alumni with community members with incomes under $54,000. Volunteers are supervised by faculty who are also certified public accountants.

The College of Business Administration had 5,525 students in Fall 2021, with 61 percent identifying as first-generation.
