Cal Poly Pomona Sees Record Number of Applications

Posted on March 24, 2022

Cal Poly Pomona received a record number of applications for fall 2022.  Potential first-year university students submitted 49,624 applications for a 21 percent increase, a higher percentage increase than any other California State University campus.

Combining applications from both first-year and transfer students brings the total to 64,281, another record, for the third year in a row. There was a 13.5 percent decrease in transfer applications across the CSU, and Cal Poly Pomona saw a 11 percent decline.

For fall 2022, the university’s undergraduate application period was extended to December 15 to give students and their families more time to complete their files. All students will receive an admissions decision by April 1, 2022.

Admitted first-year students and transfer students should visit their First-Year Next Steps Checklist to make sure their transition is as smooth as possible.

“The rise in applications is a testament to Cal Poly Pomona’s strong reputation for quality education infused with hands-on learning experiences,” said Brandon Tuck, director of Admissions. “Dropping the SAT also likely had an impact since the elimination of the SAT means that more students feel like they have a chance of being admitted.”
