Imagining Health Insurance

Amy Dao, assistant professor of anthropology, published the essay “Imagining Health Insurance” in the Journal of Vietnamese Studies. Her research examined how the implementation of universal health insurance coverage was mediated by kinship relations, risk perceptions and temporal frames in Vietnam, a country where insurance has not been a popular method for paying for health care. “By understanding people’s health seeking behavior as well as the structural constraints they faced, this project has real world applications for understanding well-being and financial decision-making in relation to insurance,” Dao said.
