Cal Poly Pomona No. 2 in New Money Magazine Ranking

Posted on November 13, 2020

Students study and participate in a group session pre COVID-19.

Money Magazine ranked Cal Poly Pomona Nov. 2 on its new list of “The 10 Best Colleges that Admit Most Applicants.”

According to the outlet, “with its 55% acceptance rate and high graduation rate, an application [to Cal Poly Pomona] is a solid bet not only for college acceptance, but also for a successful post-college future.”

Taking the top spot was Texas A&M University College Station. Following Cal Poly Pomona are:

  1. University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
  2. Purdue University
  3. San Jose State
  4. Virginia Military Institute
  5. University of Wisconsin Madison
  6. Massachusetts Maritime Academy
  7. Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
  8. James Madison University

Cal Poly Pomona’s learning model focuses on the application of knowledge, taking information learned in the classroom and applying it to real world projects, challenges and designs.

An inclusive polytechnic university, the university offers 54 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate degree programs across its eight colleges. In 2020, Cal Poly Pomona awarded more than 5,700 degrees to its second largest graduating class ever. The average starting salary for graduates is $56,000.

“The success of our students is priority number one,” said Provost Sylvia Alva. “We’ve developed a holistic approach to student success that considers everything from academic considerations to health, wellbeing and basic needs like food and housing…. Our inclusive polytechnic approach ensures that our students — regardless of their major — receive an education that is relevant, ‘hands-on’ and puts them on a trajectory for success long after they leave our campus.”

This latest ranking follows recent recognition by U.S. News (No. 2 Top Public School in the West), Forbes (No. 59 national best value), Hispanic Outlook on Education (No. 16 top colleges for Hispanic students) and Diverse Issues in Higher Education (No. 25 nationally in awarding undergraduate degrees to minority students).
