Dawnita Franklin has been appointed as assistant vice president for Institutional Equity and Compliance, effective March 16.
Franklin will lead the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance and serve as the university’s designated Institutional Equity and Compliance and Title IX coordinator. Her duties include overseeing investigations related to reported policy violations in the areas of Title IX, discrimination, harassment and retaliation, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and whistleblower claims. She is also charged with developing policies, improving processes, and establishing training programs and other educational efforts on campus to increase awareness and prevention.
“Beginning my career with CPP amid one of the biggest challenges in our nation’s history (COVID-19) has truly allowed me to see the strength, commitment and intentionality embodied by our campus leadership to ensuring that everyone is successful in their respective roles,” she said.
Franklin has built a strong professional background in assuring institutional compliance with state and federal laws that protect people from discrimination based on protected classes. A seasoned investigator, she comes to Cal Poly Pomona from UC Riverside where she served as the interim Title IX officer and director of the Title IX office. She previously held relevant positions at UC Irvine, the State Bar of California and the Los Angeles County Probation Department.
A CSU alumna, she holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration from San Diego State University and a master’s of public administration degree from Cal State Long Beach.
