Carolyn Forrester, a longtime instructional support technician in the chemistry department, died Oct. 29 from complications related to cystic fibrosis.
Forrester worked at Cal Poly Pomona from 1985 to 2013. In 2010, she was awarded the Governor’s Employee Safety Award for crafting safety-related handbooks and training materials in the laboratories. She received the same award, which was established to highlight and encourage safety on the job, in 1999.
During her time at the university, Forrester documented safety training for students, provided safety instruction and served as the principal building marshal for several campus buildings. She was one of 32 retiring managers and staff members granted emeritus status in 2013, an honor bestowed on employees who have demonstrated outstanding job performance, supported university programs and participated in campus activities.
Forrester is survived by her husband Tim, daughters Helen and Julie-Ann and three grandchildren.
A memorial service will held Friday, Dec. 6 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 4745 Wheeler Ave. in La Verne.
