This summer, Mechanical Engineering Associate Professor Paul Nissenson officially launched a new podcast titled, “The Engineering Student Experience,” which is aimed at current and future engineering students. Guests range from current engineering students, practicing engineers, and faculty members who discuss topics such as the challenges and rewards of being an engineering student, career paths available and the differences between engineering disciplines.
“My goal is to have a resource that allows high school students to make better decisions about whether to pursue engineering and, if they decide to become an engineering student, how to thrive once they obtain their engineering degree,” said Nissenson.
With five episodes currently available for listening, future episodes are planned to cover topics such as what to expect in graduate school and what it’s like to work at various companies.
“Last semester we introduced the podcast to about 60 first- and second-year Cal Poly Pomona engineering students to gauge the usefulness of the podcast to a major component of our target audience,” said Nissenson. “I was very happy to find out that the feedback from the engineering students was overwhelmingly positive and it inspired me to continue pursuing this form of communication and outreach.”
The podcast is available for download on most podcast apps such as Apple Podcasts, Stitcher, Google Play Music and Spotify. Visit https://theengineeringstudentexperience.podbean.com/ to access all episodes.
