Professor Lauren Weiss Bricker has been appointed interim dean of the College of Environmental Design following the retirement of Michael Woo. Her one-year appointment begins Aug. 19.
Bricker, a professor of architecture for 20 years, is the current director of the ENV Archives-Special Collections, a role she will continue during her time as interim dean. Her expertise and activities focus on historic preservation. She is the past chair of the State Historical Resources Commission in California, and co-founder of the Committee on the Cultural Resources of the Modern Age. Since 2012 she has served on Cal Poly Pomona’s University Reappointment, Tenure & Promotion (URTP) Committee, whose members are elected through the Academic Senate.
Bricker is the author of “The Mediterranean House in America” (Abrams, 2008) and is preparing a book manuscript on “Designing the Modern House.” She co-authored the catalog “Steel and Shade: The Architecture of Donald Wexler,” which accompanied an exhibition of the same title held in 2011 at the Palm Springs Museum of Art. She is currently a member of Redlands’ Historic and Scenic Commission and is Secretary of the Harada House Foundation in Riverside.
Bricker holds a master’s and doctorate degree in history of art and architecture from UC Santa Barbara and bachelor’s degree in art history from Swarthmore College.
