The latest estimates from Caltrans foresees the closure of the westbound on-ramp to I-10 at Kellogg Drive starting in early May. The on-ramp will close for roughly 90 days. This closure is part of the San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) High Occupancy Vehicle Lane Project, which is adding an HOV lane to I-10 to alleviate congestion.
It is expected that the westbound on-ramp closure will increase traffic leaving campus. University Police have made preparations to mitigate the closure and will direct campus traffic during peak hours. The university will provide an additional update when Caltrans determines the date of the closure.
The closure of the on-ramp will be a particular challenge during the commencement ceremonies scheduled for May 17, 18, and 19. While the university will be enhancing traffic control efforts for the ceremonies, please note that transportation on campus will be difficult on those days.
Anyone potentially affected by this closure is urged to plan ahead. The latest information, including details on alternate routes, can be found at the university’s Compass website. Specific questions or comments can be submitted at the Compass as well.
