Caltrans will close the westbound San Bernardino Freeway (I-10) on-ramp at Kellogg Drive on May 6 for about 90 days. This is part of the Caltrans High Occupancy Vehicle Lane Project that will add an HOV lane to I-10, helping to alleviate traffic congestion.
More information about the closure, as well as project updates, are listed on the university’s Compass website.
In addition, Caltrans plans to close the I-10 westbound off-ramp at Kellogg for one week during the summer. Exact closure dates of the off-ramp closure have not yet been determined.
Here are a few alternate routes to go west on the I-10:
- Take Kellogg to East Campus Drive. Turn left onto South Campus Drive and another left on Ridgeway Street. Turn left to get on the westbound I-10.
- Drive east on Temple Avenue to the CA-57. Turn right to merge onto CA-57 northbound and take the first exit for the I-10 westbound.
- Take Temple Avenue west and turn right on Grand Avenue. Drive north to the I-10.
The westbound on-ramp closure is expected to increase traffic leaving campus, especially between 4 and 6 p.m. University Police are developing a mitigation plan and will help direct campus traffic during peak hours.
You can find additional information about the project by visiting the Caltrans District 7 website at https://www.dot.ca.gov/d7/projects/10/10-hov.html. Additional FAQs and a map of the closures is available on the university’s Compass website. Caltrans has shared that closure and alternate route information is also available on Waze through the mobile apps and live map.
