Have you ever dreamed of designing something spectacular like a Rose Parade float? Do you love to sketch or imagine pictures that tell a story?
Here’s your opportunity to use your creativity and design something fabulous. The design contest for the 2020 Cal Poly Universities’ Rose Float is now open, and your idea could be brought to life. The winner will receive $500 or two Rose Bowl tickets.
The 2020 parade theme is “‘The Power of Hope,” celebrating the influence of optimism and hope.”
In announcing the theme, the 2019-2020 Tournament of Roses President Laura Farber noted that: “With hope – anything, in fact, everything is possible. Hope is more than simply the possibility of fulfillment. Hope is dignity and respect, joy and happiness, aspiration and achievement. Hope never, ever quits. Through hope, we can aspire to be our best and in turn inspire those around us to reach higher.”
Entries should be a black and white sketch, with a maximum size of 11 inches by 17 inches and should illustrate or describe an idea rather than depict a finished design. Animation ideas are welcome. Concept rules can be found at rosefloat.org.
Submissions should include the contestant’s name, phone number and email address. Digital copies should be emailed to CalPolyRoseFloat1949@gmail.com, with the subject line “2020 Concept.”
Hard copies can be submitted to the Dean of Students Office in Building 26, room 110.
For questions, contact Janetta McDowell, Rose Float director, at 909-869-3204, jmcdowell@cpp.edu or CalPolyRoseFloat1949@gmail.com.
The deadline is Friday, Feb. 8, at 5 p.m. There is no limit on the number of entries per person.
