Nicole Butts will join the university in the role of interim director of employee diversity, inclusion and campus climate in the Division of Administrative Affairs, effective Feb 4.
In this role, Butts will have the responsibility for managing the university’s federally-mandated Affirmative Action Program (AAP) as well as Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) programs. This position previously existed as director of diversity, risk management and organizational development and training (ODT). The position has been restored with a focus on assuring that we continue to advance our strategic priority of increasing the recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, staff, and other professionals.
Butts will report to Kimberly Allain, associate vice president of employee and organizational development and advancement and collaborates with a range of campus-wide partners, particularly with the Office of Institutional Equity and Compliance (OIEC) and with the Office of Faculty Affairs, to support diversity and equal opportunity in employment practices and a culture of inclusion at Cal Poly Pomona.
Butts received a bachelor’s degree in education from Howard University, and a master’s degree in human resources development from Bowie State University. She holds multiple professional certifications including Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) by the Society for Human Resource Management, Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) by the Human Resources Certification Institute, Strategic Human Resources Business Partner (SHRBP) by the Human Capital Institute and Senior Certified Affirmative Action Professional (CAAP) from American Association for Access, Equity and Diversity.
