The Saddles Café promises to offer on-the-go eats with a gourmet flair.
The Bronco Student Center’s newest addition officially opens on Sept. 13 with a grand opening event from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The café will serve pastries, grab n’ go items and specialty panini sandwiches, as well as the entire beverage menu from Starbucks.
The specialty panini menu will be posted on a chalkboard daily and will include fresh Cal Poly Pomona produce straight from the Huntley College of Agriculture and the Farm Store. Some of the produce that will be used in the panini program will include tomatoes, arugula, spinach, mushrooms and more.
The name of the new café, Saddles, was chosen through a student naming contest run by the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation marketing department. The overall concept and design was based on student input and the dining trends.
“Saddles Café features subtle elements of our campus heritage and showcases our rich campus resources and in-house culinary talent,” said Aaron Neilson, director of dining services.
Breakfast sandwiches will include a steak and eggs panini and a bacon, egg and sun-dried tomato panini. Other sandwiches will include an eggplant & portobello mushroom panini, smoked ham & manchego cheese panini, a spicy Italian panini and more. The handmade sandwiches were designed with an artisanal look and taste by Arnold Zavalza, the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation’s executive chef of residential dining, making it the perfect gourmet on the go snack.
“We are looking forward to providing exceptional service complimented by an amazing menu,” said Sandra Cain, the multi-unit manager at the Bronco Student Center.
