Cal Poly Pomona’s employee onboarding and assimilation process improvement project team has been awarded the 2018 System-wide Human Resources All-Star Awards from the CSU.
The award honors individuals and teams within the CSU community who have provided outstanding service, demonstrated significant program improvement and/or worked in a collaborative manner to solve problems and improve processes.
The multi-divisional campus team collaborated to improve the onboarding experience for new campus employees: faculty, staff and administrators. The team had three objectives:
- Develop a web-based employee resource center for new hires that is a gateway to campus information and resources.
- Change and/or develop processes and tools that allow new employees to claim their Bronco accounts before their start date
- Develop web-based resources to provide guidance on the onboarding process.
The Broncos at Work website is a user-friendly hub where new employees can easily find information via three onboarding phases – “Before Your First Day,” “Your First Day,” and “Day Two and Beyond.”
The new Employee Identity Process has helped streamline several issues establishing new hire identities in IT. Faculty, staff and administrators can now claim their email account before their first date. Faculty can transfer existing grants prior to their arrival and also set up courses on Blackboard and work with e-learning in advance. Departments can also have computers ready for use prior to the new hire’s start date.
