At 78, this Upland government watchdog is earning his high school diploma

Hal Tanner (‘73, social sciences), a longtime Upland resident with a reputation for keeping a watchful eye on city officials, has two college degrees and is retired from a 30-year career with the state Department of Corrections. But he never earned a high school diploma. Tanner went on after earning his GED from the Navy to earning an associate’s degree at Modesto Junior College and a bachelor’s from Cal Poly Pomona.
