About 100 people attended a laboratory dedication event in honor of the late Edward C. Hohmann, former dean of the College of Engineering. Attendees included family and faculty and staff throughout the university.
The Dr. Edward C. Hohmann Laboratory, in the chemical and materials engineering department, honors a leader who served at Cal Poly Pomona for nearly four decades. A fundraising initiative, led by alumni and faculty who worked with him, raised $100,000 to rename the lab. The initial goal was exceeded with additional pledges and donations.

“Ed made so many contributions to the college that his memory should be preserved in a lasting way,” said Darcel Hulse (’70, mechanical engineering), a member of the College of Engineering Hall of Fame member and one of the original members of the Industry Action Council that Hohmann created for the college.
“I first met Dr. Hohmann when I was an undergraduate student here, many years ago now. So today’s ceremony holds special meaning for me personally,” said Cordelia Ontiveros, interim associate vice president for faculty affairs, at the dedication ceremony on October 20, 2017.
Further donations in memory of Hohmann will continue to support the college’s labs and student success. To give online, visit the University’s Giving website and select “Hohmann Memorial Lab Fund” from the designation dropdown menu.
