Cal Poly Pomona students and employees who seek assistance to quit smoking can take advantage of the following resources.
Students may contact Student Health and Counseling Services at (909) 869-5272 to schedule a free appointment with a health educator for individual cessation support. Participants will get to know their smoking patterns, build a support network, establish an action plan and select a Quit Day. They will also learn how to handle stress without resorting to tobacco. The health educator will continue to stay in touch and offer support when necessary. For a prescription for nicotine replacement therapy, students should contact their medical provider.
Employees may take advantage of the CPPLifeMatters program administered by Empathia Pacific, which provides a confidential six-session smoking cessation program. They may contact Empathia at (800) 367-7474 or log on to: www.mylifematters.com (password: pomona). For more information about this employee assistance, visit the CPPLifeMatters FAQ page.
In an effort to promote healthy campuses, the California State University system implemented a Smoke and Tobacco Free policy on Sept. 1.
