Cal Poly Pomona’s Building Marshal/Floor Captain program is getting an overhaul and a fresh look.
The program’s 88 volunteer building marshals and floor captains went through an academy July 19 that trained them on their first responder duties. The one-day workshop including training in evacuation and emergency procedures, fire extinguisher use, active shooter/shelter in place and radio communications.
Staff from Institutional Risk conducted the training and participants were given certificates of completion, new uniforms and emergency equipment to assist them in better serving the campus community.
“We are proud of our Building Marshal/Floor Captains, serving in this first responder role, for the campus community,” said Whitney Fields, director of Institutional Risk & Emergency Management. “This campus volunteer base is essential to the campus community, emergency response efforts and is the first of many emergency management, ‘CPP Disaster U’ initiatives, which will be implemented by Institutional Risk.”
