Cal Poly Pomona was named by Money magazine as one of the “10 Best Places for People Who Love the Great Outdoors” to attend college. According to the magazine, these colleges “can claim bragging rights for educational value and access to a variety of outdoor activity.”
The university was ranked sixth for its multiple campus gardens, the Voorhis Ecological Reserve and proximity to the Angeles National Forest, which offers 700 miles of trails and Mount Baldy, the highest peak in Los Angeles.
The Outdoors Adventures program through ASI Campus Recreation and the popular Ridge Runner Ski & Snowboard Club help students get into nature with organized activities and trips.
In compiling the list, Money started with the top half of its annual Best Colleges list, removed institutions in cities with populations of more than 500,000 and narrowed the list to colleges where “one of the five most popular clubs was related to outdoor recreation or the environment.”
