Cal Poly Pomona’s Renaissance Scholars know firsthand how tough the holiday season can be for foster children.
They are determined to deliver good cheer to foster children in surrounding communities through the annual toy drive that runs through Thursday, Dec. 15.
The Renaissance Scholars program, which gives former foster youth the academic support and resources they need to succeed at the university, is teaming with the McKinley Children’s Center Foster Family Agency of San Dimas to brighten the holidays by collecting new unwrapped gifts for children ranging in age from newborn to 17. (Update: Students collected more than 320 gifts during the toy drive.)
Toys and gifts can be dropped off until 3 p.m. on Dec. 15 at several campus locations:
- Bronco Student Center (Building 35)
- Bronco Bookstore (Building 66)
- Student Support & Equity Programs main office (Building 94, room 121)
- University Housing Office (Building 59 front office)
Items can range from toys and games for younger children to gift cards, movie tickets, iTunes gift cards and makeup kits for older teens.
“By hosting the toy drive, we aim to share the joy of the holiday season with those children in foster care and we ask the Cal Poly Pomona campus community to help us in brightening a foster child’s holiday season,” says Makeda D. Bostic, coordinator of the Renaissance Scholars program.
