Music students will showcase their songwriting skills at the 13th annual Songwriter Showcase.
The event, which is set for Thursday, May 19 and Friday, May 20 will feature original songs written by Cal Poly Pomona students and alumni in the genres of rock, hip hop and pop.
The event, started by Music Professor Arthur Winer in 2007, allows students to perform their own music in a concert setting. Since its inception, students have played approximately 240 original songs, ranging from rock to hip-hop to Latin to country.
Students spend about eight weeks rehearsing before the concert. The proceeds from the concert are used to fund music scholarships.
This year’s songwriters include Heath Adrian, Chris Angenent, Michael Arteaga, Leandro Barrientos, Chris Buehlmaier, Ben Burr, Jessica Bustamente, Tristan Calditaran, Marcus Casteneda, Megan Dickinson, Josh Franklin, Sophie Gonzalez, Kevin Guardado, Chris Hollis, George Lewis III, Kylie Mayhew, Danielle Neri, Rhyan Riesgo, Brent Samson, Sam Smiley, Ab Trujillo, Brayden Wiggins, and Noah Zelzny along with many special guests.
The showcase will be held at 8 p.m. both days in the Music Recital Hall in Building 24.
Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students. They are available at the door, online or at the Music Publicity Office in Building 24, room 188.
