Renowned artist and music department Professor Nadia Shpachenko welcomes a variety of guest artists and composers to present master classes and concert performances as part of the Fall 2015 Shpachenko & Friends Chamber Music Festival.

In addition to performances and classes by her guests, Shpachenko will present a solo piano recital on Friday, Nov. 20 at 8 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall.

Composition Workshop Oct. 26: Composers Lewis Spratlan and Annie Gosfield will give a free composition workshop from 10 a.m. to noon in the Music Recital Hall on Monday, Oct. 26. Spratlan is a distinguished American composer, a Pulitzer Prize winner, and the recipient of the Guggenheim, Rockefeller, NEA, Bogliasco, and MacDowell fellowships. Gosfield is a Fellow at the American Academy Berlin and the recipient of the Foundation for Contemporary Arts “Grants to Artists” award.

Master Class and Piano Recital Nov. 5: Pianist Clara Yang presents a free master class from noon to 2 p.m. and an evening piano recital at 8 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall on Thursday, Nov. 5.  Praised by New York Arts for her “effortless and smooth” technique and her “devastatingly limpid and pliable” tone, the Chinese-American pianist has performed in notable venues around the globe.  A sought-after teacher, Yang has frequently given master classes in the United States and abroad, most recently at King’s College in London and at the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona. She is an assistant professor of piano at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Master Class and Piano Recital Nov. 18-19: Michael Lewin, a 2014 Grammy winner, has concertized in 30 countries.  His most recent critically acclaimed albums “Starry Night” and “Beau Soir,” released in 2015 and 2014 respectively, feature the music of Claude Debussy. “Piano Phantoms” came out in summer 2013, following the success of the Grammy-nominated “If I Were a Bird: A Piano Aviary.” He is a Juilliard School graduate and a Steinway Artist. One of the most sought-after teachers in the country, Lewin is on the piano faculty of Boston Conservatory, where he has taught many international prize-winning pianists.
