Innovation Brew Works (IBW) is the recipient of the 2015 Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards Grand Prize by the National Association of College and University Food Services (NACUFS).
IBW, operated by the Cal Poly Pomona Foundation, Inc. (CPPF), was announced as the grand prize winner in the “retail sales–single concept” category on Saturday, July 25 during the NACUFS national conference in Indianapolis.
The annual Loyal E. Horton Dining Award is the most prestigious honor that celebrates and recognizes exemplary campus dining services throughout the United States and Canada. In order to enter, applicants have to send a comprehensive book filled with detailed descriptions, examples and photographs of the unit and are judged on a number of categories including the menu, facility design, merchandising, marketing, nutrition, sustainability and the overall wow factor.
In May 2015, IBW received first place in the “retail sales–single concept” category in the large school division, which automatically made IBW a contender for the grand prize. To determine the grand prize winner, the top scoring entry from each of the small, medium, and large school divisions of a particular category are ranked against each other and evaluated by six judges. IBW was up against Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, California and the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.
Assistant Director of Retail Operations Sandra P. Cain, IBW Manager Jennifer Waggener, and IBW Beer Production Manager Koby Harris accepted the grand prize award during the NACUFS national conference in Indianapolis.
As the grand prize winner, IBW was not only honored at the national conference, but will also receive a feature article in NACUFS’ magazine Campus Dining Today.
“Winning first place in the Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards is a huge accomplishment, but winning the grand prize is even more incredible,” says Dining Services Director Aaron Neilson. “I am very proud of everyone who has contributed to the success of Innovation Brew Works.”
This is the second consecutive year that a CPPF dining unit has received first place in the Loyal E. Horton Dining Awards, but is the first time a dining unit has ever received the grand prize.
