A quartet of musicians and two renowned pianists will join music Professor Nadia Shpachenko to present master classes and concerts as part of the Spring 2015 Shpachenko & Friends Chamber Music Festival.
The festival kicks off with a free piano master class at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 16 with Charisse Baldoria, a prizewinning Filipino pianist. Baldoria will later take the stage at 8 p.m. for a recital titled “Musical Crossroads: Spain and Southeast Asia,” performing music inspired by her roots and the colonialism of the Philippines.
The Lyris Quartet, composed of violinists Alyssa Park and Shalini Vijayan, violist Luke Maurer, and cellist Timothy Loo, will conduct a free master class on Monday, May 18 at 4 p.m. as part of the festival. Shpachenko will join the quartet on the stage at 8 p.m. to perform “Brahms Piano Quintet in F minor” and other works.
The festival continues on Wednesday, May 20 with a free piano master class at noon and evening recital by Dmitry Rachmanov, professor of piano and chair of keyboard studies at Cal State Northridge. Rachmanov has played in New York’s Carnegie Hall, Washington D.C.’s Kennedy Center, London’s Barbican and South Bank centres and in the Beijing Concert Hall. He will present a program titled “Alexander Scriabin: In Memoriam (1915-2015).”
