Legendary jazz drummer Peter Erskine is coming to Cal Poly Pomona to perform with the Jazz Band.
Known for his versatility and love of working in different musical contexts, Erksine has been featured on more than 600 albums and film scores, and released 50 albums either under his own name or as co-leader. Erskine is a professor of practice and director of drumset studies at USC.
Erskine has been playing the drums since he was 4. He has won two Grammys, and received an honorary doctorate from the Berklee School of Music.
He has been voted “Best Jazz Drummer of the Year” 10 times by the readers of Modern Drummer magazine.
Dave Kopplin, music professor and director of the band, looks forward to working with him.
“Peter Erskine is one the greatest jazz musicians of our day,” he says. “It is fantastic that he is able to come to Cal Poly Pomona and share his art with our students.”
The concert will be held Thursday, March 12 at 8 p.m. in the Music Recital Hall. Tickets are $10 for students and $20 general admission, and are available online at www.csupomona.tix.com or through the Recital Hall box office in Building 24.
