Show your pride. Share your stories. Spread the word. A new website trumpets the achievements of the entire Cal Poly Pomona community through stories and videos.
We are Cal Poly Pomona showcases the outstanding alumni, students, faculty and staff who are leaders, influencers and community partners – change agents of our communities. Putting a unique spin on the traditional class notes, the Impact Map also displays how and where alumni are making a difference across the country.
“Through my work I get to see a lot of amazing personal stories around the campus, from high-tech research to first-generation students beating the odds and everything in-between. These stories too often are hidden gems. The We Are Cal Poly Pomona site is a great place to share these gems with everyone,” says Trevor Henderson, the project lead and multimedia consultant for MediaVision.
Already, the website has an impressive line-up of stories. Alumni stories include Hilda Solis (’79, political science), who served as U.S. Secretary of Labor under President Barack Obama’s first term. Also, Perry and Paul Tollett, best known for the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals, share their paths to becoming leaders in the live music industry.
Outstanding students include Ariel Marsh, a master’s student who is part of a team that’s working toward Cal Poly Pomona goal of carbon neutrality by 2030. Distinguished faculty and staff are also part of the website. One example is Chemistry Professor Ed Walton, a trailblazer in every sense and a recipient of the 2012 Provost’s Award for Excellence.
“The We Are Cal Poly Pomona website is an excellent way for our university to showcase our alumni, faculty and student success,” says Melissa Riordan, executive director for alumni affairs. “The impact map illustrates how our alumni are making a difference throughout the world.”
This website is a shared project among MediaVision, alumni affairs, public affairs and web development. For general questions, contact the Office of Public Affairs.
