As announced at Fall Conference, Cal Poly Pomona is changing its domain (internet address) from cpp.edu to CPP.edu. It is part of a campus initiative to improve the branding of the university.
How will this impact IT services? Throughout the transition process, all campus IT services will be affected. This includes email, websites, online services, and file services.
What is the timeline? The process to change our campus domain name will be done in phases over a one-year period, which started in July 2014. We are currently in the first phase, as we make existing campus services and applications available using cpp.edu. Initially, this allows the use of cpp.edu to “redirect” to cpp.edu (e.g., www.cpp.edu). Any new services from this point forward will be deployed directly using cpp.edu.
Over the next nine months, IT staff will be working to transition all IT-related services, applications, and systems associated with cpp.edu to their new permanent web address at cpp.edu. As these services are transitioned, regular communications will be sent to the campus, along with sending scheduling information and related impacts to affected users.
How does this affect my email? Immediately, you can receive email sent to your email address using cpp.edu (e.g., billybronco@cpp.edu)! Starting now, you can also begin notifying your contacts and updating your online services with your cpp.edu email address. Note: Your sending address, as seen by the recipient, will remain as cpp.edu until your email is migrated to Office365 in 2015. (More information about Office365 will be coming in early 2015.)
Will cpp.edu still work? Throughout the transition period, cpp.edu will continue to work even as systems and websites are migrated to cpp.edu. However, after July 2015, cpp.edu will no longer be owned by Cal Poly Pomona. Consequently, campus email and internet traffic will no longer be routed to this address. Note: The Department of Commerce only allows one .edu name per institution and only 6 months (plus one 6 month extension) for our campus to use both domain addresses (cpp.edu and cpp.edu).
Additional questions? As we progress through this initiative, more reminders, information and details will be sent, as well as posted at https://www.cpp.edu/~domain-change/. You can also email your questions to domainchange@cpp.edu (or domainchange@cpp.edu).
