The winner of the 75th Anniversary Video Contest and $750 is English student Abigail Inman.
Her two-minute video highlights what makes Cal Poly Pomona special – her friends.
“This video essentially was a love letter to my friends. After four years, these people are my family. They’re what I’m going to remember when I graduate in two weeks,” Inman says.
The 75th Anniversary video contest asked the campus community to show “Your Cal Poly Pomona Experience” on YouTube, Instagram or Vine. Videos were judged on creativity, originality, storytelling, emotional value, reflection of theme and technical excellence. Entries included personal stories and student experiences, as well as comedy, dancing, animals and scenic spots on campus.
The winners are:
1st place: “OUR Cal Poly Pomona Experience” by Abigail Inman
2nd place: “Experiences” by Darren Isomoto
3rd place: “Home” by Matt Paragas
Honorable Mention for YouTube: “Learn by Doing” by Jim Koo
Honorable Mention for Instagram: “Frames” by Andy Nguyen
Honorable Mention for Vine: “Grass is Greener” by Kristy Jones and Angela Mahoney
“I was impressed by the heartfelt stories and creativity in the videos,” says Esther Chou Tanaka, one of the contest judges. “You could see how much our people love Cal Poly Pomona and how their college experience has changed their lives.”
The winning videos will be featured on the university’s 75th anniversary website, social media, and the 75th Anniversary Fireworks Finale on June 6. They will also receive gift cards between $25 and $750. Visit the video contest website to see the full list of entries.
Inman is graduating summa cum laude in June with a bachelor’s degree in English literature and language. She is a member of the Kellogg Honors College and is a President’s Council Scholar. She will be moving this summer to New York City to work for a publishing company.
The video contest is sponsored by the Office of Public Affairs, in collaboration with MediaVision and ASI Gas Creative Group.
