Art, history and graphic design will converge later this month when the students of the art department show off the best of their work at a trio of year-ending exhibitions.
Collectively dubbed Poly-Kroma, the exhibitions open Monday, May 19, and conclude Sunday, June 15. They consist of the 2014 Fine Art Senior Show, which will display the work of graduating fine art seniors; the 2014 Graphic Design Senior show, for graduating graphic design seniors; and the 2D/3D Juried Art Exhibition, which is open to any students enrolled in an art class, regardless of grade level or major.
“Poly-Kroma encapsulates all the best of fine art, art history and graphic design that Cal Poly Pomona has to offer, and then some,” says Michele Cairella Fillmore, curator of the W. Keith and Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery and the Huntley Art Gallery, the venues that will be hosting the exhibitions. “We are excited to celebrate the university’s 75th anniversary with the second year of this great legacy that is Poly-Kroma.”
Poly-Kroma also includes some special one-day events: The opening reception and awards ceremony will be on May 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. It will close with a special digitized display of papers written by art history seniors on June 15. Graphic design students will have an opportunity to network with potential employers at Industry Night, which will be held the same night as opening night May 22, 4 to 8 p.m.
“Graphic design seniors focus on Industry Night. They invite people from the graphic design and advertising world, and they have the opportunity to interview with the students and see their portfolios on display,” says Cairella Fillmore.
