The music department’s spring calendar of events features a satirical comedy musical called “Urinetown,” a guest lecture from the “father of MIDI,” and performances from Professor Nadia Shpachenko and student groups.
The schedule begins Thursday, April 24, with the Spring Showcase Music Hour directed by Professor David Kopplin.
The quarterly Shpachenko & Friends Chamber Music Festival will take place April 28-29, May 1 and May 5. It will feature master classes in chamber music and piano, a composition workshop, and a concert performance by Shpachenko and guest artists Maia Jasper and Marek Szpakiewicz.
The Music Theater Workshop will perform three shows of “Urinetown the Musical” May 8-10.
On May 12, synthesizer pioneer Dave Smith, who is dubbed the “father of MIDI,” or musical instrument digital interfaces, will give a guest lecture on careers in music.
