Cal Poly Pomona’s nationally-ranked women’s and men’s basketball teams will take to the court Friday as they open the NCAA Division II Tournament.
The women’s team is the No. 1 seed and will host West Region games March 14-17 at Kellogg Gym. The Broncos will open the tournament by playing No. 8 University of Alaska Anchorage at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
A limited number of free tickets are available for each day of the regional games for students, faculty and staff, thanks to the university’s Division of Student Affairs. The tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis, starting at 11 a.m. at the Kellogg Gym Box Office. A Bronco ID is required to obtain the tickets.
The women’s team is 22-6 overall this season and won the California Collegiate Athletic Association regular season championship. This season marks the 23rd NCAA tournament appearance for the Bronco women, who have won five national titles.

Meanwhile, the men’s team is the No. 3 seed in the West Region and will play Dixie State in the first round at noon Friday at Coussoulis Arena in San Bernardino.
A limited number of free tickets and spots on a shuttle bus to the game are available for Cal Poly Pomona students. The shuttle departs at 11 a.m. from Lot K, and returns at 3 p.m. To register for a spot, go to www.broncoathletics.com/bus. The men’s team is 21-6 this season, finishing second in the CCAA standings. This season marks the Broncos’ 11th tournament appearance. The team won its first national title in 2010.
