Louie F. Lacasella, a graduate student in the master of public administration program, was awarded the Wes McClure Scholarship by the California City Management Foundation. The annual scholarship is for students who are interested in careers in local government management.
Lacasella is a first-generation college student who started his education at Chaffey Community College and received his undergraduate degree at UC Riverside. “I believe strongly in California public higher education, and I wanted to earn my master’s from a public university as well.” This led him to Cal Poly Pomona, which he chose because of the “Learn By Doing” motto.
“The coursework in the MPA program has truly proved itself with this motto as it has involves real life situations faced by public administrators,” Lacasella says. “As a result of this philosophy, the program has provided me experiences that will better prepare me as I pursue a career as a facilitative leader in local government.”
