Daymond John, founder and chief executive officer of FUBU clothing line and a judge on ABC’s Shark Tank, will speak Wednesday as part of the College of Business Administration’s Leadership Forum in the Bronco Student Center (URSA Minor/Major).
The event will begin at 7 p.m. in the Bronco Student Center (Ursa Minor/Major). It is free and open to the public.
John is an entrepreneur from the streets of Hollis, Queens, who went from designing and making FUBU clothing in his living room to generating $350 million in annual sales. Through his branding and marketing expertise, the clothing brand has been embraced by the hip-hop community and worn by artists such as LL Cool J, Rick Ross, Lil Jon, and Soulja Boy.
John is also an author, motivational speaker and listens to entrepreneurs pitch their ideas as a judge on Shark Tank, the No. 1 Friday night show. John will bring his personal D.J. for a night that will be an entertaining discussion on entrepreneurship, marketing as well as an exploration of his life and career path.
“Daymond is a perfect fit for Cal Poly Pomona,” says CBA Dean Richard Lapidus. “He is a self-made businessman who created his own luck and is still an entrepreneur at heart. We look forward to bringing him onto campus.”
The Leadership Forum is a special speaker series that aims to inspire and motivate leaders to transform business and society and is generously supported by 1971 accounting alumnus Ronald Gregoire and the Gregoire Family Trust. The 2013-14 Leadership Forum series is also celebrating Cal Poly Pomona’s 75th anniversary, a yearlong celebration of the university’s founding in 1938.
Guests are required to register by Monday, Nov. 4, at https://leadershipforumdaymondjohn.eventbrite.com/. There is a $5 parking fee for guests without a Cal Poly Pomona permit.
