In his weekly video message, President Ortiz remembered Ivan Arturo Aguilar, a 21-year-old communication student who died Thursday after he was struck by a motorist while riding his bicycle along Kellogg Drive near the Visitor Information Booth.
Aguilar was involved with several campus organizations, including Hermanos Unidos and The Poly Post. Students, faculty and staff have several ways of remembering him, including sending messages to the family or by assisting his family financially via an online campaign or the university’s Credit Union.
Ortiz expressed thanks to the Pomona Police Department for handling the investigation, which is ongoing, and Counseling and Psychological Services, which responded to the crisis and reached out to witnesses, Hermanos Unidos, The Poly Post and others.
A moment of silence was held to honor Ivan at the beginning of the women’s and men’s basketball games on Friday night. Both teams went on to defeat Cal State Dominguez Hills on senior night.
