The Cal Poly Hospitality Association has been honored as the 2012 Student Chapter of the Year by the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA). Jessica Zhang, the university chapter’s vice president, was awarded Student Member of the Year.
The chapter award recognizes one of 17 CH&LA student groups for demonstrating initiative and industry involvement. Throughout the academic year, Cal Poly Pomona’s chapter organizes tours of Southern California hospitality properties for Collins College students to explore their industry. Partnering with Collins alumni from these establishments, members have had the opportunity to tour the Disneyland Resort, UCLA Dining Services and Hyatt Regency Orange County.
“Being part of a student chapter is a wonderful way to build your connections and understanding of the hospitality industry,” Zhang says. “It is our bridge to industry professionals.”
The third-year hospitality student was recognized for academic excellence and her commitment to the hotel industry.
“Receiving the Student Member of the Year award was truly a great surprise and the highlight of this year at the Collins College,” Zhang says. “I am very grateful to CH&LA for this award.”
Both awards were presented at CH&LA’s Stars of the Industry awards in November. CH&LA is the largest state lodging industry association in the nation, and a partner state association of the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
