Four staff members received the 2012 Amelia Hammond/Staff Council Scholarship to help them reach their education goals. Award recipients were honored at a ceremony Nov. 6.
The winners are: Jose Zavala, University Housing Services; Cheryl Jackson, Student Health and Counseling Services; Nichelle Carrillo, University Accounting Services; and Holly Greene – Equine Research Center.
Amelia Hammond was a staff member from 1962 to 1980. She served on Staff Council and founded the scholarship program in 1978 for employees pursuing higher education. She in June 2003, and the awards continue in her memory.
Each year, Staff Council raises scholarship funds through its Valentine’s Day drawing.
Scholarship recipients must use the funds for career development or personal job improvement education that is not covered by release time or fee waiver programs. Courses may be taken at community colleges, universities or technical schools.
