Giving is the theme of President Ortiz’s video message this week. He shares a few ways that the campus community can give and stay involved.
One way to stay involved is to vote on Tuesday’s election, which will determine the next president of the United States and several state ballot initiatives. The Bronco Student Center will be a polling location for Los Angeles County voters.
Another way to give back is to donate blood. Because of Hurricane Sandy, the Red Cross is reporting an urgent need for blood and platelets.
For state employees, giving may be as simple as contributing to the California State Employees Charitable Campaign. Last year, Cal Poly Pomona employees donated nearly $25,000 to local nonprofit groups.
The president’s video highlights a couple of important events this Thursday: a free flu clinic at AGRIscapes and the Veterans Day celebration in the University Quad. Next week, the university hosts Salman Khan, founder of the Khan Academy, who will speak on the future of education and technology’s role in it.
