Walter Marquez has been named associate vice president of facilities planning & management, effective July 1, announced administrative affairs Vice President Ed Barnes this week. Marquez had served as the administrator in charge of FP&M since July 1, 2011.
Facilities planning & management is the lead unit for planning, developing and maintaining the campus’ natural and built environment. Marquez will be responsible for managing five areas: facilities planning, design and construction; facilities management (including mechanical services, building and construction services, landscape services, custodial services and logistics and recycling services); energy services; and a customer service/work order center.
“I am proud to be part of a professional team (in FP&M) who care and value this campus community. Together we will continue to maintain and develop an environment where faculty, staff, and students can excel.” Marquez says.
For the past six years, Marquez has taken on several FP&M positions, including overseeing the nearly $200 million capital construction program, negotiating all construction claims with construction firms, managing the university’s utility budget of nearly $10 million, and serving as human resource liaison for 160 employees.
Prior to coming to Cal Poly Pomona, Marquez spent six years at the CSU Chancellor’s Office, where he was first a financial analyst in financing and treasury and then a university planner in capital planning, design and construction.
Marquez holds a bachelor’s in business administration from Cal State San Bernardino and an MBA from Cal Poly Pomona. He is pursuing his doctoral degree in organizational leadership.
