President's Video Update for May 21

President Ortiz gives a video message on May 21, 2012.

Governor Jerry Brown’s recently released May Revise included an additional $50 million potential trigger cut to the CSU. If the governor’s tax initiative falls in November, the CSU would be hit with a $250 million cut, about $11.75 million for Cal Poly Pomona.

On Wednesday, President Ortiz invites all faculty and staff to watch a live stream of the CSU’s System Budget Advisory Committee meeting. Video will be aired in Ursa Major, BSC at 10:30 a.m., and the campus community is invited to provide feedback to the committee.

The president urges everyone to review the Cost Reduction and Revenue Enhancement Strategies document at https://bit.ly/KV1bJm. “It’s important for everyone to understand the options being considered by the board, ones that could literally change our identity.”

President Ortiz shares some good news on campus. Track and field athletes Jacob Deaves and Tiffany Dinh will compete in the NCAA Division II Track & Field Championships this week in Pueblo, Colorado.

Art students are displaying their work in the display their work in the Keith and Janet Kellogg University Art Gallery. The Senior Show runs from May 15 to June 9.

The president also has news about National Foster Care Month and the annual COM Day conference.
