The tough economic climate isn¿t stopping the Cal Poly Pomona community from showing its support. Halfway through the fiscal year, Annual Fund has raised more than $217,000 ¿ an increase of $12,000 from the same time last year.
During December, student callers got in touch with students, parents and alumni to raise money for the university. Dolores Ybarra, director of Annual Fund, says a lot of work goes into deciding who gets called, but the ultimate goal is to give all alumni the opportunity to make a difference.
¿They believe in what they¿re doing,¿ Ybarra says. ¿They¿re raising money for the university that will open doors that the budgets cuts have been slamming closed.¿
And they beat their December goal by almost $4,000, raising $113,930.86 in just a month. December is a particularly good time for raising funds due to the giving spirit that the holiday season instills, as well as the fact that it is the last chance of the year for a tax write-off.
The Annual Fund, which is part of the Division of University Advancement, is working hard to reach its $460,000 goal by June 30, the end of the fiscal year.

Cal Poly Pomona has embarked on a $150 million comprehensive fundraising campaign to ensure that a quality college education is within reach for future generations of students. The campaign will strengthen the university’s ability to provide a hands-on education, to prepare students for the changing demands of the workplace, and to increase research and scholarship opportunities. The fundraising campaign relies on the support of the entire campus community — from alumni to faculty and staff to friends of the university. For more information, visit http://campaign.cpp.edu/.
