The College of Science honored three staff members for the summer quarter with the Staff Recognition Award at a reception July 20.
Anthony Beachler, instructional support technician and health & safety technician, joined the biological sciences department in 2002, oversees the health and safety aspects of the stockroom.
¿Mr. Beachler approaches his job with an enthusiasm and professionalism that result in significant improvements in efficiency and cost reductions to the department,¿ says biology Assistant Professor Craig W. LaMunyon.
Michael Brown, curator of Rain Bird BioTrek, started in the biology department in 1978 and was instrumental in the creation and maintenance of the BioTrek.
¿Mike’s contributions and talents is his genuine commitment to the faculty and students here at Cal Poly Pomona,¿ says Gary Carlton, biology professor. ¿In all things, Mike goes above and beyond what is expected of him. No matter how busy Mike is, we can always depend on him to be available when we need him.¿
Mike McAtee, equipment technician, has worked in the geological sciences department since 1980. In addition to his many duties in the department, he is in charge of the college¿s Wood and Machine Shop.
¿I do not know how the geology department or the College of Science would function without a multi-tasking ¿handyman¿ such as Mike McAtee,¿ says Jon Nourse, department chair. ¿The savings in cost and time associated with his work are invaluable.¿
