UPDATED, July 26, 5:30 p.m. — A gas main at the northwest corner of Valley Boulevard and Temple Avenue was ruptured by a construction crew at about 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26. No one was injured by the incident.
The campus community was asked to avoid Temple
Avenue between Valley Boulevard and South Campus Drive as workers capped the leaking
gas main, an effort that is expected to take six hours. Temple Avenue has been blocked between Valley Boulevard and South Campus Drive with traffic re-directed at
intersections. Valley Boulevard had been closed, but was reopened at about 4 p.m.
The Los Angeles County Fire Department, Pomona Police and University Police are on the scene. Fire officials advise that building evacuations are not necessary at this time.
The gas main was apparently punctured by a subcontractor working on behalf of HP Communications to install new communication lines.
