A team of plant sciences students placed sixth in the annual Collegiate Turf Bowl, held at the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America Education Conference and the Golf Industry Show. This year, the conference was held in February in Orlando, Fla. The competition consists of a multiple choice exam and wriiten essay, with subject matter ranging from plant physiology to human resource management. Each team submits one exam and essay, which is then graded by superintendents. This year, about 90 teams from universities across the country competed in the Turf Bowl.
This year’s team was lead by Phillip Cahoon, with Larry Heath, Robert Micklis, Ryan Nichols and Tyler Schulz. Schulz’s essay was awarded the second-highest point total for the competition. The team also took won $300.
