The state Senate Budget Committee will hold a public hearing this Friday, April 29, at 1:30 p.m. at Cal Poly Pomona. The committee will take testimony from education and public safety officials as well as the general public. The senators will also discuss the $11 billion in cuts already approved, as well as options to resolve the remaining $16 billion gap necessary to balance this year’s budget by July 1.
The budget hearing will be the only one in Southern California this fiscal year. Sen. Mark Leno (D-San Francisco) will chair the hearing. Sen. Bob Huff (R-Diamond Bar), the vice chair, whose district includes Cal Poly Pomona, also plans to attend.
Other committee members who plan to attend include: Sen. Bill Emmerson (R-Hemet), Sen. Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto), Sen. Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach) and Sen. Michael Rubio (D-Bakersfield).
Sen. Gloria Negrete McLeod, whose district includes Cal Poly Pomona, plans to attend as well.
The hearing is expected to run about three hours. It will take place in the Ursa Major Suite of the Bronco Student Center.

The public is welcome to attend. Daily parking permits are $5 and may be purchased at the parking information booth at the edge of Lot C or at one of several self-serve booths.
