Biology Professor Graciela Brelles-Mariño received an award for third place at the “Villa de San Esteban de Gormaz literary contest” out of 1,010 stories submitted to the contest in Spain. She wrote a short story, “El emigrante,” for a book of short stories with the same title and submitted it for publication during her sabbatical leave in 2007. The main character is inspired by her great-grandfather, who immigrated from France to Argentina in the 19th century.
