Dorothy Latasa Kiefer, the first female professor in Cal Poly Pomona’s kinesiology department, has died. She was 88.
Kiefer began her career in what was then known as the physical education department, in 1962 and worked there until the early 1970s. During her tenure, led a task force focused on training student teachers.
Kiefer died Aug. 22 after a stay in an senior living home. A memorial service was held Sept. 15 at the Mission Basilica in San Juan Capistrano.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Kiefer; son, Kenneth Kiefer; daughter, Kathryn Kiefer Abbey, son-in-law, Elliot Abbey; one sister; four grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
