Mandayam “Srini” Srinivas, a university faculty member and administrator for 22 years, will serve as interim dean of the College of Science effective July 1, Provost Marten denBoer announced Thursday.
Srinivas began his career as assistant professor of computer science in 1988. He served as department chair from 1997 to 2006 and associate dean of the College of Science from 2006 to 2009, when he worked closely with outgoing dean Donald Straney.
“[Dr. Srinivas] is widely respected within his college and throughout the university community,” denBoer says. “This appointment will maintain continuity on the key initiatives that will elevate all of our science programs.”
The university will conduct a national search for the dean position. Associate Dean Barbara Hacker will continue to serve in her current role.
Straney was named chancellor of the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and his appointment begins July 1.
