Accounting Professor, Chinese Officials Discuss Tax System

David Lee Rice, associate professor in the accounting department

David Lee Rice, associate professor in the accounting department, spoke with Chinese government officials May 18 through a partnership with the College of Extended University. The officials serve as directors for various provinces in China and traveled to California to learn more about the U.S. taxation system.

The Chinese officials visited at an interesting time for tax policy as several provisions are changing in a few months, including the expiration of the alternative tax rate on dividends and an overhaul of the Federal Estate and Gift Tax policy. Rice, who also is an attorney, specializes in federal and state tax law.
